Dispute windows, explained
Under Regulation E (debit cards) and Regulation Z (credit cards), banks are required to investigate billing errors reported within the applicable timeframe — typically 60 days from the statement on which the error first appeared.
Some banks have longer windows (PayPal: 180 days, Chime: 90 days). Some card networks have extended chargeback windows (up to 120 days for certain Mastercard reason codes). This calculator uses your bank's published dispute window as the primary deadline.
